On the way to the detecting grounds one of the roman villa sites was harvested and the farmer was on his tractor discing the field. I stopped on the grass strip and chatted a bit. The farmer is very interested in history in general. 15 mins later we hit the site, conditions were not good with the dry loose soil after plow and discing. Anyway, we made a couple finds and after some rain with more compact soil finds will be better.
Some small buttons, roman hobnails and small coins prove the settings on the Deus were spot on. Coolest find for me was the tiny paperthin aluminum disc shown on the Cent at about 5"-6" deep. We got loads of lead too, we both dug 46 pieces lead gridding the main site. Best find of the day was a silver 1806 III Stuber which i gave to the farmer. He had a big grin on his face, was 1806 the year his farmhouse was built...
Thanks for looking!

Awesome finds and noble gesture! hope it all comes back to u in the form of gold some day!

awesome gesture in the gift of the find, he won't forget it either

He was harvesting wheat and you were harvesting wheats. Good thing giving that coin to him very nice of you and your ticket back.I wish there was that kind of history here the town I live in was founded in 1826 ish I'm sure there are no stubers around here Great post!!!!!

Great finds man! That stuber is killer! It's great you made the farmers day with that one. Strangely, my favourite are those hob nails. Very cool. I'm glad the wheat is out and you're reaping with the Deus

Good Juju headed your way Lu for taking care of the farmer. Still sniffin out that silver. Good luck.

Thanks Scrappy, really a nice Stuber. One of the last made before French occupation and later the Prussians brought their own coinage. And great condition!
I like to finde these nails too. Did you notice there is a tiny bronze nail with them? Maybe more a unused rivet for a leather mount than a nail.

Thanks Tim! Made the farmers day and i get another Silver the next day. There is a silver in every field. You just need to swing the coil over it. :occasion14:

Very nice work, and I've also found farmers to be open if you take the time to talk with them. Great lessons in your post -- thanks and congrats! :icon_thumleft:

Nice date to give the farmer. It's better when they have an interest.

The Wheat is still at least a week off yet. The Oilseed Rape & Winter Barley are in & the Spring Barley has started.

That looks like your best option right now, plenty of targets & plenty of chance.
