Cru'Dad & I only had a short 2.5 hour window & we were debating back & forth where to go. We could have carried on gridding at the Saxon Site but we are in an area that has been covered at least 4 times & has very little plotted. I wanted to risk it in an unsearched area of a field that has a Roman Site. But it was over 1000 metres from the edge of the Site & when passing through that area we had no good signs.
We deployed a tactic we use to sample large areas. Loose Gridding, I do a run, Cru'Dad misses 2-3 runs. When we hit something we tighten back up, nothing happens for awhile & we go back to loose gridding. In a short period of time we covered the area I wanted to sample & as luck would have it, we chose the right runs!

I've always been hyper-active.

Great silvers there Cru, what's the story on the Roman silver coin?

Great silvers there Cru, what's the story on the Roman silver coin?

It was at the beginning of one of my turn arounds after leaving a gap of 2 runs from Cru'dad's last run. Its only the 3rd (other 2 very poor examples) Roman Silver off the whole field, but its a huge distance from the main spread of Roman Bronze Coins & in an area with no other Roman signs.

Very nice Siliqua. We don't get many of them here. Good day!

We don't get many but its great to get a new one in such good condition.

Great choice you guys made, the Roman is in top shape, though I am liking the short cross just as much. Well done!

Amazing coins, across the pond drooling... I have found a shoe buckle piece close to yours over here though...

Isn't that just the way it goes sometimes haha! The Roman coins really interest me, as well as the hammereds...and the Celtic. Ok I guess I am interested in all of it. I'm really hoping to dig a Roman silver when I'm in your neck of the woods next year.

Who is on the coin and what date range do you figure?

PS. Forgot to mention, the weather is great right now. Still in a T-Shirt (in fact 1 day previous nearly got sun burnt) & the Butterflies are still out on the 10th Oct! Not complaining, although I prefer a cooler hunt.

Dang ! You guys are just banging hard on the good coins lately - unbelievable - !!!!

More by accident than plan on this day. We thought 1 hammered was likely but all the rest was a surprise. Tomorrows field will bring the hammered streak to an end, but its been a good run, very happy so far.

I love the pictures, its awesome what you guys find, and what's still out there. Thanks for sharing:)

Whats still out there is going to take an army of detectorist a thousand years to mop up. (on the right land of course)

Congrats! I love to see what you guys find over there! Looks to be a land steeped in history!
