Got in a little CW hunt today, wished I could have stayed longer, but by noon I was soaking wet from head to toe with sweat.
Went back to the Union camp area, where some earlier 1812 items have been found.
Managed to save 6 bullets, some are smaller than others, not sure if they are just worn from the elements or diff size.
Also one or two appear to have only 2 rings, is that confederate.???
Found my first percussion cap.
Found a few brass grommets, couple small square nails, and a small intact flat button the the string still attached.
The best find of the day was the 1810 Copper Gibraltar Quatro. Turns out this is a fraction of a Reale.
It was a deep target with faint tone and no VDI on the XP DEUS. My oldest coin to date.
Still trying to figure out how to proceed cleaning the Quarto, and the flat button.
Had a good day. My buddy saved a few bullets and found a nice Union Eagle "I" button on top of the ground.
Lucky $&*%'er, I had to go deep for all of mine.
Didn't find the dime today, just put it in there for scale purposes.

Great digs BP. Is that an actual coin or is it a token?

Thanks TBD. I did a little search on it and found out it is a merchants token made in Gibraltar to Fractionalize the Reale.
"Keeling's Gibraltar copper two quartos dated 1810, small date. Obverse: Nice view of lion seated to left with paw on city key: “PAYABLE AT ROBERT KEELING & SONS. GIBRALTAR”. Reverse: Three turreted castle and portcullis with date below: “VALUE TWO QUARTOS 1810”. These were issued by Robert Keeling, a local merchant, in an attempt to alleviate the local shortage of small denomination currency. Twenty-four quarts made up one real. "
So 23 more of these babies and I will have a 1 reales, lol. unless its a 2 Quarto, then I only have 11 more to go...:laughing7:, or something like that.

Nice ID on the old copper- looks like a great spot you have there.
Thanks VMI. Now I just have to figure out how to clean/preserve it.
Would have stayed all day if it weren't so darn hot.

Congratulations on the productive and interesting hunt!

Finished product

I think I overdid it a little on the cleaning, but here is the finished product.
Think I went way too long on the peroxide bath.
