Dug another 1600's hammered Spanish coin at an early colonial site
I spent 4 hours or so on Saturday detecting an early colonial site that I found a couple of weeks ago. Last time I was there I dug a small hammered copper coin that I couldn't identify and gwdigger was right on the spot with a positive ID on the coin. Turned out to be a Spanish Valencia Philip IV minted from 1621-1665. I didn't really expect to find another one but I was within 15 feet of where I dug the first coin and had a mid 60's nice tone on my T2SE. A lot of times these turn out to be .22 cal lead but when I dug up a shovel full of dirt I fished out another corroded piece of copper that without having dug one like it before would probably tossed it in the scrap metal pile. Turned out to be another Valencia Philip IV coin and in a little better condition than the first one. The last picture is an better example the same coin.

I suspect that this site has been detected pretty hard over the years because there are very few good targets around the two cellar holes. I managed to eek out a heavy tombac button, a small brass with glass insert button, a nice thimble, and a handful of rose head hand forged nails. If I knew anything about locating and digging trash pits this might be a good site for it.
