I got a copper penny signal in my backyard (Which is from the 1800s). I dug down a little and found an oil lamp. I dug some more and found dishes, and bottles. I kept digging in that spot and found a total of 4 oil lamps, a chamber pot, 4 buckets of broken glass and broken dishes, a brass barrel spigot, a brass lock plate, two 1850s gutta-percha lice combs, two silver plated spoons, a cigar pipe, many bottles, two porcellan mason jar lids one from around 1858 with errors, and another from around 1872, I also found all of the pieces of a ceramic 1 gallon jug that just needs to be glued together,My weirdest find was a intact cork, and much more. After doing research I found out that all of the items were from 1851-1895. Many of my finds are not pictured in this post. I can not wait for the ground to unfreeze so I can dig again.

Not all finds are shown (One Cocoaine bottle for example), and this year (2014) I found more finds.

Sweet Warner's Safe Cure bottle!!! thats 1880's:icon_thumleft:

Fantastic to have those treasures in your very own back yard. At least you always have a good fall back when all other sites fall short.

The Ns are backwards on the porcelain lids...nice finds...congrats.

P.S. The only screw top bottles I found were two decanters that date from the 1880s...

I agree, I need more close-ups but I put them in storage already.

Hey coinman,

Wait a minute, they just were wrested from a long dirt nap, and they're already in boxes? That's no fair!

I'm assuming you're from New Hampshire, due to that nice Howe & Streeter Schlitz. How frozen can the ground be in November?

If the screwtops that you showed in the group of four are the "two decanters," those are part of a late Victorian cruet set.

Nice stuff and great bottles. They came out looking really good. My family DR's name is Burnett. If you ever decide you want to sell one of those bottles, let me know.

Wow! You hit the mother load and didn't even have to leave home! Awesome!

Nice finds, good round up of bottles. All date from the mid 1880's to about 1900 excepting the cruet set which might be earlier. There could be more stuff close by.

doninbrewster, the Burnett bottles are relatively common. It was a company out of Boston that made spice and flavor extracts from the mid 1800's through into the 20th century. There are always a few different types from the company on ebay if these are not available.

Maybe an old trash dump or cellar hole ? Keep showing those finds. Very interesting.

I would be willing to think that instead of a trash pit or cellar hole, it was infact an outhouse. Many people would throw all kinds of stuff down the privy. You should watch some videos on YouTube of digging privys so that you can make sure to get all the relics. Hh

I'm a good little digger, just let me know if you need some help, ha lol

Very cool bottle dig you had!

Awesome post! Great job on the old bottles. Very cool.
