So a friend and I began exploring an unused area of an older park. The first trip netted almost 60 wheat penny's and 6 silver coins. We had been hunting with heavy discrimination, only digging high end signals. (the area is extremely trashing, TONS of screw caps) We were a bit taken aback by how many wheat penny's there were. Subsequent visits, 4 total for me, and 2 total for my friend yielded 140 wheat's and 15 silver coins, along with the 2 rings shown in the pics on this post. It wasn't until this last solo visit by me that things really started rocking!!! I had still been detecting with discrimination until I found the v-nickel 3 wheat spills. At that point I decided I was going to circle around the hole with no discrimination and dig every signal. (we had discussed doing this in a 10'X 10' area to see what the trash was hiding from us) I'm glad I did, my first signal after was the gold and silver wire ring. 30 minutes later, and maybe a 15'X15' area later I had 4 buffalo nickels 2 war nickels, some junk jewelry, and of course that very nice gold and silver ring!!! I can't wait to go back and start digging everything, though near the end I started to go over a trashy area and was getting a ton of screw caps again. Enjoy the pics.

Must be a pond close by for the fishing weight, another member found that same small crucifix yesterday his still had the paint or enameling on it.

AWESOME! Love to find a park like that!:icon_thumleft:

Great finds! I found a gold and silver ring like yours that looks almost exactly the same! Mine was found at an old park as well

Nice and the Buffalos have their original color.

What brand/model of detector are you using?

Holy crappe', great park haul. :occasion18: Nice variety too.
Keep at it.

Congrats, I have been looking for a spot like that. Good work, you must be tired from digging!

Dang , that is absolutely unbefreakinlievable man ! I would go so far as to say that's ridiculous !!! "sweet dreams are made of this ".

They didn't start out with their original color, they were totally red after the initial rinsing. No dates on any of them. A few soakings in hot vinegar and salt get them to the "gray" state. You can go farther, however it is rare to get it back to shiny nickel and have the details remain. I've always found it interesting, no date dirty or red buff, dated dull gray buff, no day shiny nickel buff. Toasted a bunch of them to find the "sweet" spot.

As for my machine, I was using a eTrac with a SEF 10X12 coil on it. Manual sensitivity up around 29.

Nice haul! Any key dates on the wheat cents? Is the little crown a pin?

No key dates that I remember, but definitely some early ones. The crown was not a pin. It does have two thin "tabs" on the back, so they might have been pushed through clothes to act as a pin.
