Hey everyone,

We got a good rain here the last few days and most of the snow is finally melted. I went back to a few places I've hit before and decided to try out the smaller coil. I worked a lot of the trashy areas close to the foundations and also was able to get inbetween smaller branches and trees that had previously gotten in my way.

Hunted one site yesterday (pictured) and came away with the spoon, flat button (treble gilt), and little buckle. Not too exciting.

Went to another spot today and got an interesting match holder with and eagle on it. To my surprise, when I was cleaning it up I realized it still had a few matches inside! Some of them broke apart, but still cool nonetheless. I have no idea what time period this might be from, but I'm thinking early 1900s? Also came up with a piece of a fork that wasn't very deep, but looks super old.

While I was hunting I also came across part of a really old shoe, thought it might be neat to post a pic.

Happy hunting!

Isn't it good to finally see bare ground. Looks like you had a great day, hope that tonights storm blows through quick. HH

Cool finds, match holder is great----hopefully we can get a hunt on this year --hh

match holder with matches inside.... that's cool

Wow, a match safe with Lucifers still inside, nice find.

There were match safes in the mid 40's when I was a boy scout. I recollect that they were plastic army surplus, so yours being metal probably dates to the 20's or 30's at least.

Awesome hunt! That is just too cool seeing a match case, with the matches still in it! Love that flat button too...it speaks volumes to the age of that site!

Grasshopper- Sweet finds!! Tired of this rain ,you never no what will wash out . Is that a RR grade? ED

What do you mean by RR grade?

GrassHopper=In the upper right photo, looks like a raill road grade or old road? Place looks neat!!-ED

Great finds really like that match safe,I found half of one the other week same as yours.those were used in the late 1800s.The one I found was at a place where I was digging civil war relics at.sweet find.way to go

First time I have ever seen a match safe with matches still inside! Very nice find! I found a match safe myself a few years back, but it was missing the top. It's a cool find. Congrats!

Great find, congrats and HH!

Love that match holder! The flat button is most likely early 1800s.

Yup, it's an old road. You can see the stone walls flanking either side. Being here is literally like stepping back in time...I love it.

Cool match holder!! any other markings on it besides the eagle?

Nope, not that I can see. There is a large chunk of the back missing, making this even more perplexing how the matches survived around 100 years in the ground.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Great match safe...time to add another item to my wish list. Also amazing to find old leather in such great shape, I found it interesting to research how leather can be so quality it could last 100+ years in the ground...seems most leather workers are cutting some serious corners these days.
