Whew...its been a long winter in Michigan. Starting to break. Had back to back 50 degree days on Friday and Saturday and decided to get out to the old farm field that yielded several (10-15) coins that dated back to the 1800's last year.

In fact, the NEWEST coin that I have dug in this field was a 1903 Liberty (V) Nickel.

Anyway, don't really clean my coins, so sorry for the bad pics.

I got out in the field for 1.5 hour hunt on Friday and scored 3 coins...all from the 1800's.

First was an 1879 (Holed) Indianhead Penny

Second, gave me a 1-12 reading on the Explorer SE...last year this same reading yielded an 1866 (I think) Three Cent Nickel.

Yup, you guessed it...I scored another one. 1869 Three Cent Nickel.

These give the absolute worst signals ever...I would never dig this signal at 95%+ of the places I search. However, in this field..I dig every repeatable signal because they are few and far between, usually shallow, and easy digging.

Last coin on Friday was an 1876 Indianhead Penny.

Ended up getting out the following day (Saturday) for a 4 hour hunt. Only managed 1 coin, but its a Large Cent. My 3rd overall and 2nd from this field.

Cannot see a date. It was so bad that I put it on a Grinder (1st coin I've ever put on a wire wheel)...and you guessed again...Looks quite a bit worse. I was just trying to get a date off of it. At least I know its 1850's or earlier.

Either way, had loads of fun. Only managed 4 coins in the 2 days, but I found the kind of coins I search for...OLD ONES!!!

Out of all of the coins I've dug in the this field, again the 1903 Liberty Nickel was my newest. However, both Indians are my second newest coins. These are the first from the 1870's that I've dug in this field.

All others have a date range of 1841-1869.

Happy Hunting,
