Very nice find. Hope you find some more goodies.

Congrats on the capped Bust! The hole gives it a lot of character.

FANTASTIC finds, my friend. The new site didn't have much for me to find, but I'm danged glad you got some great stuff out of my hunch about that spot. ;)

Now, I think there's more there, but the amount of can slaw is so overwhelming. I think there'll be more good finds come out of that spot, and it'll be easier after we did that work to clean it out some. You're a Capped Bust coin up on me--and that takes some serious work considering how long I've been digging. Well done!

Congrats,

Buck

That trigger guard looks nice, and that coin has a story. Almost looks gold from your pictures. Nice save on those pieces of history.

You guy's are doing it.... The musket part is more likely from the butt plate.Common place for it to break as seen in mine below.Could be brown bess,a fowler,or french trade gun.The style is common on all those with the engraving & shape.
Take Care,
Pete,:hello:

By the way not trying to get on you guy's nerve on your post here lately.:laughing7: Just thought you should know because most likely for you to find that piece the rest would have to be there for it to break.Should be a ear blower when you hit it.But them cans you speak of are too.:laughing9:
Take Care,
Pete,:hello:

We know you do it right, this is just the start:thumbsup:

40,000 is double ours:notworthy:

We got into a new field and on the first cane row I dug a musket rifle trigger guard piece. About 5 rows over pulled a 1832 Capped Bust half dime. It is the second least minted at 965,000.

By the look of the wear in the hole it looks like it was wore as a pendant.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Timekiller, you nailed it again!! Looks exactly what I have! I appreciate your knowledge and replies!

First off, BIG thanks to Timekiller for the ID. It's great to have an expert like you on the forum that is so familiar with the old stuff, and so willing to help ID finds. I never found much that was that age in KY while I lived and hunted there. That is certainly what it is. If you get a chance, take a look at my thread ("Capped--Soldier modified Eagle Button") in Today's finds. There is an engraved piece of brass there, but looks too thin to be off the butt plate. Not sure if it rings a bell with something similar you might have seen or dug.

By the look of the wear in the hole it looks like it was wore as a pendant.

Most folks think these were worn on string, but according to some very knowledgeable digger friends, the holes were to string on wire so they wouldn't get lost. Makes sense, cause string is not durable, and it really couldn't wear out a hole into a teardrop shape like that.

Cheers,

Buck

Thanks Guy's for the kind words. There's alot of people on here who knows more then me.Sometimes I think people get offended from someone trying to help. For me I like to help as much as I can,It's just my nature. It helps me learn & keeps my mind fresh studying objects.Seems like a win win situation I learn as much as I can & the finder gets a idea of what he's/she's dealing with. You guy's are cool in my book & know you like this hobbie as much as anybody.:headbang: I saw your post last night I think, & could not make much of the piece your speaking about but that happens in this hobbie we've all found those objects.Gotta go I've got a outboard motor broke down outside & need to get it back together.
Take Care,
& Best To ya,
Pete,:hello:
