New sewer and water pipes going in. 1898 Indian Head cent, 1876 Shield nickel was in real bad shape I did the peroxide 5 times and ended up using limeaway to get the crud off,1937-s wheat cent and what I think is off an earing with a hole in it. And a coin bank.
The bank is 2 7/8 x 4 1/2 brass or copper.

Nice finds

Way to take advantage of a street dig up. You gotta go for it!

How deep were those coins? That bank is cool.. too bad it wasn't filled with silver dollars.

The nickel came from the side of the dirt after they took the curb and gutter out. It was a foot or so down and three inches in the side wall. The indian head was a couple inches down after some dirt and sod was scraped from the surface by the backhoe. The wheat cent was 3 inches down and also had been scraped of sod by backhoe ,Maybe 6 inches of sod and dirt was allready removed. The coin bank was in a pile of dirt from a trench that was dug 3 foot deep and laying in the dirt pile. roger

i wish i would have detected the road here in town a few years back... the main road into town from the nearby town was removed and replaced as well as widened out, so there was alot of exposed dirt :(

the part that may be a part of a earring could also be part of a fishing lure :dontknow:

The date side was totaly caked. I thought it was lead at first and I turned it over all I could see was the 5. The lime away worked .
