Son of a...I can't believe it! I've been trying to get together with Patriot for two years so I could get a chance to get my coil over a cannoball. That's my 6 pounder!!!!

You ask the boys how deep that thing was. :headbang: I don't know what your settings are, or when your discrimination on a F75 starts to affect the depth, but TRUST ME you would need everything that machine has to get that puppy where it was. Easily 30" which might not seem to super for a ball, (6lbs isn't really that big though) but try looking down a hole that deep... it was certainlydown there. Right in the main hunting area too, so it was probably walked over before. Minelab Power!

He IP
Nice photo's, Great finds :icon_thumleft:. Winter, here, is very mild at the mo' but very wet. So it's hard to get out at the moment and swing the machine. I hope your Spring comes soon for you and more great finds.

Yeah, I would have got that one...picked up a large iron ring at two feet last weekend...

You would have to see the hole ... I think many more people would place bets on here than they would looking down the hole. It was definitely the deepest good target I have found. Remember the detector is only seeing the top of the ball, not really that much surface area. Anyway, it was fun throwing the ball out cuz the boys were watching digging not really knowing what to expect.

We'll have to dig some big iron in the Spring and see what you got!

I'm counting down the days...I could have been there today if I wasn't still sick!

Yeah it's too bad it worked out that way. This ball definitely would have done more for you than me, but it did make my day so that is cool.

PS.. I did get one pewter, pewter shank so probably not much hope, but does appear to have something under the crud. Will have to try and clean it but is very frail.

Patch buddy, before long you will be able to supply your own war fare. :laughing9: :notworthy: The frenchliard is that silver? Never seen silver look like it's crumbling up. Nope, not silver but it was much darker coming out of the ground and had me going for a sec seeing old Louis. It sure changed color now that it dried out.

I told you that you were going to dig something killer. That French Liard cannonball is the killer find! :laughing9: What is the iron object in the first pic? :dontknow: I know that is not the 6-pounder.

Canister shot i would say.

The cool part is the ball was actually fired from a fort to where we were digging them. Nice to make that connection.

1800s button also from today.

Yep, gotta be at least one more.

I still plan to use electrolysis so no need to try and be perfect with the hammer. The rust sure did fall off easy!

really easy cleaning method, I like to keep things simple, like no moving parts, this is all I need for cannonball cleaning, just ask Mr. Stanley!

Just noticed the place name is on the seal. Couvertures Toulouse, France. That's a long trip in the 1700s!
