Did you hit one with a hammer yet? It would be nice to see what's inside... Is it heavy?

Millville, NJ?

Put it in vinegar for a half hour and tell me what happens or take a pic after you put it in vinegar.

Gold doesn't react with vinegar so the fact that it didn't react "might" mean that it's gold.

A Purple of Cassius test would tell you for sure if it's gold. It's an easy test if you know how to do it.

You can get everything you need at a hardware store such as ace hardware. Home Depot & Lowes don't have the fertilizer for some reason?

Get hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid used in pools) Tin solder (usually has a little bit of lead or other metal in it) and sodium nitrate. (plant fertilizer nitrate of soda 16-0-0) Get the highest tin content when you buy the solder.

ALWAYS ADD ACID TO WATER NEVER WATER TO ACID! Use glass containers, metal containers will dissolve. Do it outside and stay away from the fumes! The acid mixtures below should be heated a little but will work without heat if you let them sit in the sun for a while.

Scrape off a few specks of the gold colored stuff off of the rock.

Mix 2oz sodium nitrate (nitrate of soda fertilizer 16-0-0) with 4 oz of distilled water and 8 oz of hydrochloric acid. Put the stuff you scraped off in the mixture. This will dissolve any gold in the sample.

In a separate glass container put 1 gram of the tin solder in 1 oz hydrochloric acid. Most if not all of the tin will dissolve.

After everything dissolves dip a q-tip in the acid/tin mix then dip the q-tip in the acid mix containing the scrapped off sample. If the q-tip turns any shade of purple it's gold. It could be light purple to very dark almost black.

crush it and pan it, probably mica, but there could be gold in there too.

Radio shack sells a Pocket Microscope for 10 bucks or so, that makes even the smallest specks of gold look like big nugs. The mica will be sharp edged, flat and flakie, the gold will have rounded edges, and look like a nugget. Good Luck.

Dude,
The title of this thread is " Is this gold? please help " ...Yet you seem convinced that it is........I can Guarantee you that is not gold...... you should have crushed it up and panned the material out already, what`s the hold up ?
