That almost looks like mahogany obsidian but don't think that would be in Florida. I'm sure an expert will chime and let you know. Cool find!

nice point, beveled too isnt it,not sure of the type but thanks for sharing.look for gator to chime in

Edgefield maybe. Like the beveling.

Nice find. Maybe a Bolen Beveled, 8000 to 10000 years old, just a guess, I might be wrong. Welcome to t-net.

It does look like a Bolen Beveled that was a good deal bigger and been resharpened to just about exhaustion. Nice find.

very unique piece and very solid looking. Just what they needed to skewer a thick skinned 'gator maybe.

I would be careful about posting where and when you found a point in florida as it is against the law here and now and they are enforceing it here and now so just be aware that what you post here is viewed by all public, including and not limited to you and me! Sad state of affairs here in the south!:( Nice bolen!

Wicked bevel on that piece.

I am by far no expert, but my guess is that it probably isn't stained...it is solid black and the same tone throughout...but again, I have no experience with determining this...thanks for your suggestions and comments!

Thank you for the advice...I never would have thought back then that I might be violating laws by picking this up...i will be more discreet in any future posts about specifics...that is if I find anything to post...thanks for the heads up!

I believe when you picked that up it wasnt against any laws. So I wouldnt worry about that. If it was recent then there would be an alarm going off some place.
Where is Gator at anyway?

Expanded notch Bolen bevel. After a few sharpenings. Those notches used to be even deeper..nice find. The material looks like possible black bay bottom chert. It is often found as paleo and very early archaic Florida points. Super find!

I have a broken point for material comparison.

thanks for your expertise!...although I was just walking the beach and it has been over a decade since I found it, it is stoking a fire to start a new hobby. I am really impressed with the passion and knowledge of the members of this site. Thanks Gator!

You're very welcome! Welcome aboard.
