My wife Peggy with her trusty XLT has found several pieces of a powder flask circa 1860's. The flask itself may not be an "AMES" but the mechanism is stamped with that identity. These pieces were found in a very scattered area (several acres apart) and may not be from the same flask or mechanism.
The large disc at the bottom (outside of the display box) "matches" perfectly to all the holes in the discs in the display. It also has internal threads in the central hole. However... it is HUGE in comparison to the others! With the holes aligning, it would seem to be related... but it simply does not fit in size to the others...
These were all found in a military training area used during the Civil War.
Can anyone give an explanation or point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Ralph & Peggy
