Need advise? I set up a deal today to purchase a metal detector on this website today. Was I just scammed? At 2:01 today I told someone I would buy their machine. This is the response I got back.. Then it is yours. You won't be sorry. Please send a USPS money order for $1,050 to Jo(Removed) ek, TX 78612. Once I receive the money order I'll ship the E-Trac via USPS Priority with insurance and send you the tracking number. I believe my phone number is on the listing but it's 5(removed)0. I'll mark the listing as "Sold Pending Funds" if you will confirm for me that you want the detector. Thanks, So I sent a message back.. Confirmed I then went to the post office and put up $1050 plus mailing and money orders plus certified mail.. Totalling over $1065. And sent the money.... With confirmation numbers and all! I then get a message this evening: Holy Crap! Did you already mail it? I am so sorry! I'll turn it around and send it back as soon as it arrives. The other guy started texting me and we made the deal not more than 15 minutes before I got your message. I really am sorry.

What am I to do.. Wait around for weeks to get my money back... Or did I just get scammed? i am not very happy right now....

Any advice?

first off Personal info was removed from your post.
Sorry it was either Edit or delete.

do keep the info in your personal records though :unhappysmiley:

as for your Question, you can probably go to your Post office today yet & Cancel the M.O...
yes you may still need to wait for it's return, or 10 days which ever comes first,
before the P.o. will return your cash, But it should give you peace of mind.

Although I think it is uncool to have 2 people discussing buying at the same time,

I don't know the full circumstances, so I will hold my tongue (or in this case index finger)

but hopefully "Scammed" is not the case, and at this time just frustration thinking.

Keep us updated !

This really hits home with me as I recently tried to send in a detector I wanted looked at and a screen replaced. When the folks who make the product leave you hi and dry, it does make you frustrated at the least. While reading both sides of the story, dakota is not going to get his detector as it was sold twice. I have bought used from forum members and was very happy with my purchase. Kudos to Dakota for prompt payment. Sorry to hear this went south.

Update! I got my money back today...

I am quite releaved...

I thanked the person on the other end, he was honest and quite sorry about the mix up...

Thanks again for all the help out there.

I think this was handled in a first class way. I understand both sides. I think the two who were involved are stand up guys. They set examples for how to handle a situation very nicely. My hats off to both of you. Respectfully Donnie Johnson

I agree with this!
Both sides handled this "mess" in the way that it should have been.
I understand both sides as I buy and sell quite often on an archery site and this very thing has happened to me too!
The buyer is upset because he misses out on a good deal, and then wonders when, and IF, he will get his money back.
The seller is upset because he knows how the buyer is feeling, but is at a lost as to what to do. So he did the only thing he could do. He apologized and returned the money order.
Kudos to the both of you for being as understanding and up front about the whole deal!!!
