Nuggets & Quartz Veins

Is it possible for a nugget to come out of a quartz vein and not have a really rough appearance? Or is it always rough? Or does a nugget have to travel a long distance to become partly rounded? I have a pic of a nugget I found last year and I don't think it looks too incredibly rounded. Here's the pic..



Wish I had a better individual pic of it but I no longer have it. It was 1.5 grams just found it laying on the bedrock after a storm.

Gold prospecting was the funnest thing I ever did, and finding gold on bedrock "eyeballing" was like a huge bonus! Hope you find lots more - its just a matter
of putting your "coils" over the gold.

Yeah it is really fun! Being out in nature and exploring new places is a big part of it. My fever is going haywire right now lol. After doing really good in an area last year now I'm stopping and thinking where are they all coming from? Guess its time to rip bedrock veins and the bank.

Look into the "supergene enrichment process." Gold can weather quite a bit before being shed from the source. This occurrence is especially prominent in areas where the geology has produced free gold in quartz and iron veins.

Below: Consider the contrast- I found both of these pieces within 3 feet of each other. They had traveled only a few yards from the source.

look at Australian nuggets and Rye Patch eons of wind and erosion can do a lot to an out cropping.

I found some loose nuggets at the 20 foot level of a hole i dug they vibrated out of the vein some how worked there way into a void , they were crystaline not a lot of wear but were loose from the vein. this was a fissure vein gold is where you find it!!!!!
