I found a spoon with the markings on the back:
WMA Rogers{silver/nickel} R
The info I got from the web was the approx.
date of this is 1847-1881
Now, it's been in the lake for years, and on sand... so, it looks terrible.
Can this be cleaned... is it just coroaded, all the silver flaked off...? What???
kinda green... is that the"nickel" part...? I'll see if I can get a better, closer pic...
Your thoughts...?
Thanks for looking

Great recovery! Those old spoons are always a nice find.

those are generally plated over copper.either nickle or silver.I have maybe 8 or ten of em.very cool find and good for you not assuming date as the company name includes 1847.if there is a small,"IS"stamp it is more modern as international silver purchased rogers.huck it in a tumbler as you arent going to affect value.tons of them avail.in excellent condition and not too expensive.
cheers

No "IS" on it anywhere...

Great find, its actually in better shape then some that I have found.

I always thought the 1847 was the pattern #.

I think its actually when the company began.
On the WMA Rogers info site, I typed in the words on the back,
it gave me those dates...
I guessed because it's not the international silver version...
I never did see the plain as plain could be handle number...
Its perfectly flat! No etching whatsoever!
