Awesome, it looks to just be an off the shelf 26650 battery which can be had for under 20 bucks and user replaceable no less! Does it just have leads soldered to it or does it have a pcb (protection circuit) on the end of the battery? That's great news!

Thanks for the peak inside! :icon_thumleft:

Thanks for showing that.
Is that screw on the left holding the pig tail?

No, that screw holds the battery seal in place. There's 2 seals at the top of the battery. It's a 3-4 minute job to get it out. Make the change from the battery to a new is undetermined. No way to know what's involved with out a complete dismantle of the battery. I didn't want to go there. :laughing7: Here's a couple more pics I took.

Talk about a little time consuming. Like the double gasket idea but man that’s some work for delicate hands

But considering a good 26650 will only need to be replaced several years down the road, its only a half hour job out of every 3 years or so.

That’s very true.

Three wires, two for power and one for thermistor (temp monitor to prevent over charging). Wonder if leaving it in the hot sun would keep it from charging. Would not recommend trying that.

The problem is "looks like". Just like people discovered with changing out the batteries in the ctx pod, and the WM-10, finding the exact battery is damn near impossible. There are batteries that match the power, and others that match the size, but finding one that matches both is difficult.

Other close up pics confirm it is a 26650 cell. So the voltage and capacity are standardized by specification and not in question. The question is how the solder tabs are installed that connect to the connectorized pigtail.

Regardless, by the time I have to replace the battery I will have already moved on to the drone-controlled Equinox 1800 with LIDAR.

"drone-controlled Equinox 1800 with LIDAR" I think Cabelas has that in stock....

lol......I like your style

Battery is replaced by taking out and unplugging pigtails. A 3-4 minute operation.

Did you put silicone grease on the o rings when reassembling?

Chub

Did not take mine apart, as I don't want to void the warranty. :occasion14:

I called Minelab and told them what I did and that I posted pictures, I did not void my warranty as per Minelab. I was told the marketing dept was going to post a statement in regards to the battery being replaceable. I was joking with the rep about doing them a favor by posting the pics and that they should send me a hat, thay are :headbang:

I think if someone took the battery out and screwed up the seals and took it for a swim and drowned the battery compartment, yes, you would probably be in trouble. Mine will never see water, so, for me, it was not a risk.

Good to know Dan. Thanks. I think your efforts were worth at least a ML backpack, though.

The last thing I need is yet another ML hat. LOL.
