I'm just a collector, but the 195 coin looks like it's been kinda *hand-worked*. See the xray below:

Re: WHEAT PENNY MISSING ONE NUMBER 195--------

Looks like it was a 1959 to me???

HH,

Re: WHEAT PENNY MISSING ONE NUMBER 195--------

nice find......the coin is not hand worked nor is it a 1959 (they stopped producing Wheat Cents in 1958) .....I'm not certain but it looks like it could be struck through grease or just a defective planchet to begin with.

HH all!

Greg

I'm still just a collector, but there is a lot of strange stuff on this cent, such as something causing the R in LIBERTY to change to an N.... LIBENTY.

Looks like a strike thru to me. Something hard at that! Didn't allow the dies to meet on that side. See the damage to the rim.

WOW, Excellent observation! :notworthy:

Re: WHEAT PENNY MISSING ONE NUMBER 195--------

A lot happened with that coin that does not appear to be post mint. All in all, a very interesting coin.

Re: WHEAT PENNY MISSING ONE NUMBER 195--------

I guess it's possible it could be the result of a filled die. If it is a filled die error, it would probably be worth a couple of bucks.

i put close ups their is nothing wrong with the r in liberty no hand work here, its the way it was struck from the mint.

WOW, Excellent observation! :notworthy: observation from that end is not working well have to look at it in person sorry

Also, the S and T at the end of "In God We Trust" are missing. It looks like the right side of the coin has been sanded or otherwise worn down by some abrasive. As for the N in "Liberty," I think that's an illusion caused by the lighting. It looks (at least to me) like a normal R in the first set of photos.

In the photos posted by Arizona Bob you can clearly see a small "9" to the lower right of the "5". You can see it in both he full size and the blown up photo. No explanation here. Just an observation.

My opinion is that you have either a "rolled thin planchet" or a very small clip. Either way there was not enough metal to "flow" up into the die to give a complete strike.

planchet look,s thin to me on the date side ,the word liberty looks worn slightly on both the R and Y i would think it,s a mint error planchet .

I found a similar penny going through my father-in-law's estate. Except this 195 penny is clearly marked "S"

Hello,
I've seen this on foreign coins more often. This was a tiny edge clip which was done when the blanking press had a slight overrun on to the next cycle. The lack of material was filled in by the pressure of the coining press and left the shallow area. Even though the disc was filled in by the pressure of striking, there wasn't enough material to fully bring up the last digit. So this qualifies as a mint error, and it is collectible. Not a big premium on something like this, but it is interesting.
Best of Luck,
Phil
