Avago's 2015 Year-End Totals

Hey All, so we've been searching long and hard all year long and I'll be glad to share with you our results along with some stats. We only searched halves, so this post will only contain those results.

$194,725 halves
----366 boxes-------$10,780 CWR---$945 loose
------90% - 434--------90% - 20------90% - 7-----> 461
------40% - 566--------40% - 37-----40% - 23-----> 626
Ken-796--Ben-181--WL-108--Barb-2--Total -> 1087 Silvers/260.23 oz.

High streaks: Silver - 12--Skunk - 11

We searched a total of $194,725 in half dollars this year, including 366 boxes, $10,780 CWR and $945 loose.

*The $10,780 CWR (extra MWR is lumped in here too) yielded 20 x 90% and 37 x 40% including 8 Franklins and 7 Walkers for a total of 12.71 ounces. If extrapolated out to compare to boxes, this represents an average of 2.64 silvers per "box". On average, we searched $189.12 to find each silver.

*The $945 loose halves yielded 7 x 90% and 23 x 40% including 2 Franklins and a 1970-S silver proof for a total of 5.93 ounces. Per dollar searched, loose is by far the best-yielding though is the slowest to accumulate. This represents an average of 15.88 silvers per "box". On average, we searched $31.48 to find each silver.

*Our box stats are by far the most detailed. The 366 boxes searched, or $183,000, yielded 434 x 90% and 566 x 40% (1000 silvers total exactly) including 170 Franklins, 101 Walkers, 6 x 1970-D, one each of a 1982-D and 1982-S Washington Commemorative as well as an 1893 Colombian Exposition for a total of 240.69 ounces. We did not find any Barbers or foreign silver in our boxes this year.

We averaged 2.73 silvers per box and had to search $183.00 on average to find each silver. We averaged 0.66 ounces per box and had to search $760.32 to find each ounce of silver. We came in at a 90% to 40% ratio of 1:1.3 meaning for each 90% we found, we found 1.3 x 40%. This is an excellent ratio!

We were skunked on 184 boxes and found silver in 182, meaning we had a 50.27% skunk rate. Our best silver streak was 12 straight boxes and our worst skunk streak was 11 straight.

Our best box contained 98 silvers (84 x 90% and 14 x 40%) including 42 Franklins and 27 Walkers for a total of 32.45 ounces.
Our second best box contained 90 silvers (87 x 90% and 3 x 40%) including 38 Franklins and 34 Walkers for a total of 31.91 ounces.
Our third best box contained 46 silvers (42 x 90% and 4 x 40%) including 26 Franklins and 13 Walkers for a total of 15.78 ounces.
Our fourth best box contained 53 silvers (6 x 90% and 47 x 40%) including 1 Franklin for a total of 9.12 ounces.
Our fifth best box contained 21 silvers (21 x 90% and 0 x 40%) including 13 Franklins and 6 Walkers for a total of 7.60 ounces

Boxes 1,2,3, and 5 occurred within a month of each other and accounted for a large portion of our silver for the year, especially Franklins and Walkers. Our stats become a bit more modest and representative of our typical results if these boxes aren't counted.

Without our top five boxes, we would have only totaled 692 silvers (194 x 90% and 498 x 40%) including 50 Franklins and 21 Walking Liberties for a total of 143.82 ounces. We would have averaged 1.92 silvers per box and had to search $260.84 on average to find each silver. We would have averaged 0.40 ounces per box and had to search $1,255 on average to find each ounce of silver. We would have had a 90/40 ratio of 1:2.57, meaning for each 90% we found, we found 2.57 x 40%.

While dumping, we were able to score $34.12 in reject chute change including 1 silver quarter, 11 silver dimes, two silver Canadian quarters and one Canadian silver dime.

*Our grand total for the year comes to $194,725 half dollars searched yielding 461 x 90% and 626 40% including 181 Franklins, 108 Walkers, a few commemoratives and varieties, for a total of 1087 silvers and 260.23 ounces!*

We were very lucky this year to be able to search as much as we did and come away with as much as we did. Of course it's never about the money... it's about the thrill of the hunt and feeling your heart skip a beat when you tear open a roll to reveal a blast white gleaming rim!

Great year Avago Congrats!!!
Hope your first 5 of this year are as plentiful. HH

I wish I had your determination and a wife that loved to CRH. Awesome year, and I wish you an even better 2016.

Great post and awesome results! Congrats on all that AG. Sweet year of hunting

Avogo, any idea what this coin was? Year?

The look reminds me almost to a T, the 1970d I found.

Hey foofighters, I'm almost positive you hit the nail right on the head. To the best of my recollection, this was indeed a 1970-D!

Great post. Congratulations. Hope 2016 is better for you.

I do $4000 in halves a week myself and had similar results...although I did get skunked this week from the looks of it. I weight all of my rolls and if they are 226 grams to 226.4 grams they go into one pile and 226.5 and up go into another. If they are 225.7 - 225.9 they go into yet another pile and under 225.6 goes into the "If I have time" pile. I am just happy that my dump bank has now put up with me going on 3 years. Every Tuesday I come in with $4000 in halves for them to get rid of for me.

Absolutely stunning! Great job finding all of that silver! It motivates me through hard times. Keep up the good work...Brad

CAN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THAT!!! NICE STATS AND PICTURES!!! HOPE YOU SURPASS THESE IN 2016 OR AT A MINIMUM MATCH THEM!!! GREAT JOB!!!

Hey Avago, nice year! Over $10,000 searched in CWR's, that's amazing! I miss asking for CWR's but it just got so intense with them in my area that I just stopped asking for them anymore, they were so worked over. I remember seeing some of the killer scores you had earlier on last year. Good luck in 2016! HH, Maverick.

Fantastic year you had avago! I like how you broke down your year into detailed finds, hopefully this year will be even better! Thanks for sharing.
