I love finding silver quarters but they are few and far between in bank rolls. Until about 4 years ago, silver quarters evaded me. Even my time employed at the bank was weak in producing quarters.
I now work for a property management company - apartments mostly. 4 of those properties have coin-op laundry machines for which I count the quarters. These machines have the older style push-in coin trays so they accept anything.
A typical take from a site will yield between 2 and 4 thousand quarters. There is one site that can approach 10 thousand. They are usually collected every 8 weeks so you can begin to see the volume of quarters I go through.
I count them with a machine but hand-rake the quarters to the counter. The silver is a beacon to anyone with a trained eye. I have estimated that I find about 2 silver quarters to every 8 to 10 thousands coins counted. This includes Canadian silver. I also have found 5 state quarter proofs and this is all done with cursory glances while I run them through the machine. I feel confident that I have an over 95% capture rate for the silver. My best silver take from this money was 5 quarters in about 4 thousand.
Maybe this will be helpful to some but it certainly showed me why I dont find a lot of them at the banks. Over 4 years of doing this at my job I have gotten about a roll and a half + of silver quarters. It's a nice perk!
