First thought an old sink or bathroom tub bottom fixture... but not from a 1901 site if related...? Still a thinkin"...?

I'm not sure, but my gut reaction is the center plate of a burner assembly for an oil lamp. That could be way off, that's just what came to mind.

I think YOUR a lot closer if not spot on.... good call or guess robertk.

Escutcheon for something. If it's red metal, probably copper. Brass is usually yellow in color, but, not always. Chemicals in the soil can change the surface color.

Can't tell from the pics if it's flat or slightly conical.
Is the hole the right size for a light bulb?
