Visiting the Phoenix area, wanting to detect gold nuggets

I will be visiting Phoenix soon and wanted to detect for gold nuggets. I read about Vulture Mountains and few other places but from what I have read, they are either operated by the Maricopa County Parks and no metal detecting is allowed, or there are a lot of claims, so detecting is off limits.

Does anyone have any suggestions on available places in around Phoenix?
