good move by the way knowing to dial down the sensitivity level when around powerlines -- powerlines often bleed off EMF signal which interacts with and mess's up the "electronic" signal feild ( think of of it a electronic "cloud") put out by the detector's coil -- when the electronic cloud made by the machines coil comes into contact with metal in the dirt it becomes "disturbed" -- and signals the machine -- the strenght of the disturbance when processed by the detectors circuitry will try to tell by the responce what type of metal and its depth --differant metals have differant "electrical conductivity levels" (sadly some metals have a very similar "electronic conductivity levels" -- (like a aluminum pull tab / gold ring) --and stronger signals are normally shallower if coin sized -- depth reading "guesses" of the machines are set up based on coin sized items * so they are often off - on small or large items.

Thank you for sharing Ivan, I wasnt quite sure about how the detector recognized different metals, but you learn something new everyday!
