I Would Never Call A Cat A Horse...Nor...Zinc Alloyed With Copper...Only Brass!

You can call a cat a horse if you want.

If copper is alloyed with Zinc it is brass - no matter how much phosphorous is added.

In any case there is no evidence the piece in question is bronze, nor does it contain phosphorus.

As I pointed out previously the inclusion of lead points to a machine age brass formula. Lead does not alloy with brass but it mixes fairly well and provides lubrication for machine tooling.

I think it held a burning rope that was used to light off a flash pan on an old rifle or musket. The rope was inches long and always stayed lit, you held this between two fingers for faster shooting. Just my guess...

Interesting Theory!

Do you have some "Research" to prove your...Speculation?

There may be some!

Please pursue.
