Virginia Beach
Detector(s) used
Minelab
I've been dabbling in metal detecting for a while now, since I inherited a Minelab Explorer. I've mostly detected on the beach, but have tried a little in my yard and a few tot lots. I'm not very good, and don't know what I'm doing most of the time, but I really like the hobby and would like to get more involved. However, I really don't know where to go - not to mention, being female, I don't like to go new places by myself.

If anyone from Southeast Virginia would be willing to have me tag along sometime and pass on a little knowledge, I'd be forever grateful. I work weekdays, but most of my weekends are open.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Susan,

I too am just getting into using a Metal Detector. I have lots of experience in American and Virginian History, but not much in metal detecting. Would you be interested in learning together?

:hello:
Hi Susan,
I think the very first and most important thing for you to do is become comfortable digging a plug (hole) and replacing it so you cannot tell it was dug. The best place to start is your own front yard. Once you are comfortable with that, then you re ready to explore. Respect of another persons land goes a very, very long way in this hobby. Donate some of you finds to the local museum. That will open some doors for you. Set your mind to as if you could only get around by means of horse and buggy. You needed water close by to water those horses. You needed water close by for yourself. High ground, near water is always a good spot. To this day, it is preferred by those with money.

Good luck and have fun!

Mike
