I think...If I read the identifying mark correctly as the Boo Chi mint as found on this site: http://www.calgarycoin.com/reference/china/china8.htm

The possible dates are 1419, 1467, 1478, 1501, and 1514.

I had actually detected this coin with my Tesoro Bandido II uMax about three or fouryears ago (in the same area I found my recent chinese coin), and had thought I lost it for good a long time ago. Today I was cleaning out a drawer and whala! There it was. I guess it pays to keep a clean office. ;D

It also appears to have been a survivor of one of the many fires that ravaged such mining towns as the one I found it in.

Thats awesome that you guys can always identify those old coins!!!

Thanks civilman!

finderzzs, that's a neat historical fact. I didn't know that!

detectingfreak...I had no clue how to identify the chinese coins I had been finding till someone put me on to that site.

I'm still excited by the fact that such a coin has so much history behind it. It makes me wonder just how many hands it has been in over the past 500 years.

OK, Alan from Long Beach just informed me that my coin is upside down, LOL. And it's actually from the same period (Chien-Lung, 1736-1796) as my last coin. Dagnabbit!! Thought I had a real oldie. Oh well, I still love finding these chinese coins. Thanks for the correction, Alan!

Hea Ray go back to where you found the coin & start too
search for GOLD, if you did not find the coin in a town.
Theres a good chance there could be GOLD in the area,
since the Chinesse mined for GOLD.

nice 1 Ray now where did you say you found it? ::)
