I've been back from the Outer Banks, NC for about a week but just getting around to posting. I'll post my finds pictures first then some other interesting finds.

I only got out for one low tide and I was testing a Garrett SeaMark II water detector. Since I'm not very familiar with this detector there was a big learning curve so not too many finds.

First a very small silver ring and a gold plated silver earring found on the beach. I've included a 1906 Indian Head and part of what I think was a handle to a silver utensil found in a NJ park.

This one could have hurt...

In front of the house we stay at is a shipwreck I thought you may enjoy seeing pictures. It is not usually this exposed but the day after these pictures there was even more showing.

Last but not least is the largest shark I've seen in the wild. This big boy washed up on the beach a few week prior to us arriving in NC. It is a Basking shark and I parked the bike behind it to give you a feel for the size.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the recent warm weather for everyone on the east coast.

Happy hunting.

It is a Basking shark......basking in the sun a little too long....lol............nice pics and cool wreck. Hope you detected since mother nature moved some of the sand out of the way!

Did you notice the large metal rings on that boat? I'm wondering if its possible that an old anchor is attached or maybe some other goodies? Might take a little digging, but it might be worth it?

Cool pics of the shark & ship skeleton! Nice IH & jewelry too.

Curious, are those notches cut into the side of the ring?

Take care & HH

It's excellent to find a wreck that requires no diving. I say check it out as soon as you can.

You may want to get that shark moved soon...It's gonna stink.

Really puts ones size in prospective. I'm just a minnow in the waters with monster like that out there.

Nice IH, that sure is a big shark and laying on the beach like that it looks like a petrified shark.
Thanks for posting.

Do you know anything about the boat age maybe, have you found anything around it

Thanks for the pictures, THer. We vacation at the Outer Banks quite often...up north at Corolla and Whalehead Beach.

I've found quite a few shipwreck spikes and little copper nails that they used to attach the sheathing to the hull of the ships. Did you find any of those around that wreck? :)

I did see that..the ring is approximately 12" wide. It looks like the boat may have burned since there seems to be some sort of tar covering that portion of the wreck. I met another THer by the wreck and he pulled a few 1700s coins from the beach not too far from the wreck but I don't think this wreck is that old.

Yes, the name READE is cut into the ring.

The shark is not that close to any houses and they already removed the innards so they would not fill with gas.

Thank God the Basking shark does not have teeth but I'm sure if it brushed against me in the water the heart attack would kill me.

I don't know the age or anything else about the wreck. I have not found anything old but someone I met on the beach found some coins from the 1700s not too far from the wreck. He stated he found them around three years ago and one was a Virginia Half Cent. So in the future I'll have to focus a little harder on this area. Some old silver and gold coins have been found about a mile north of this site.

Awesome post, I enjoyed the pictures! That sure looks like a small cannon in the shipwreck. That shark looks like some fishermen gutted it. Thanks and HH, Mike
