Dug an iron stirrup today 5 inches down in the frozen tundra of New England. Definitely hand forged, so I knew it had to be old. But based on my research, I think it's from the Rev War era! Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's probably that old.

It's in very nice shape, so now I really need to get my electrolysis setup going. Let me know what you guys think.

Looks 18th C to me, but not sure how to connect it to the RW??

Never stated that it was a Rev War relic, just from that era...

You've got my vote. Nice find.

That find right there Tim, is why I dig the majority of my iron signals. Very cool intact old stirrup buddy. Yes, procrastinating with my electrolysis set up too. Great recovery from the frosty dirt mate.

Yup, I really have fun digging up the old iron. Didn't expect this, though! You never know what's going to pop out of the ground here in New England, especially deep in the woods.

What's interesting is that it's in better shape than most of the iron relics I find from the early 1900's. Very well made, too. Someone took pride in their work when they forged this stirrup.

Very Nice iron stirrup Free bird. That will really display well and be quite an addition to your collection. Well Done.

That is quite the stirrup
Nice find

Evolution,

Wow, you found the same one 10 years ago! Very cool! I also think I need to buy that book!

Great find. I'd absolutely place it as an 18th century stirrup.

Killer relic recovery! :occasion14:

Thanks guys! Glad to see I'm not the only one who appreciates iron relics. Definitely going back to this spot tomorrow. Probably get skunked, but you never know...

Certainly an 18th century stirrup and it looks great. A few years ago I found a mostly complete brass one from a Rev war garrison but I still can’t be sure it’s from the war. But I like to say it is. Great find - be sure to post it after a clean-up.
