Mint mark is an initial D or S - For Denver or San Francisco ,No visible mintmark would indicate that it was minted in Philidelphia .
Mint marks matter because coin values are related to two factors - 1. original mintage figures 2. condition . Argentium.

Usually what I do for values is check eBay ended listings. You can throw out guide book values all day but those are for full retail prices you'd pay at a coin shop for problem free coins. Usually dug coins have issues but of course some come out problem free and I've seen some even graded by the grading companies. This coin appears to have been in water for a long time. Unfortunately that affects value. If its a common date it might only be worth its silver value - around $6. But that being said finding a barber quarter is a scarce feat and it would be priceless to any finder. A good book for rough (retail) values and info is the Redbook by Whitman. Should run you about $15 and its definitely worth it. Congrats!
