Went back to the field that yielded the FE cent and seated dime. Was there for
about 2 hours with not much to show. Got at least one IHC and maybe a second,
but haven't checked them yet. Things really slowed down and a lot of junky beeps
were present. Was about to call it a night but decided to wander around for a
few minutes before calling it good. Got a nickel signal at about 5 or so inches.
But, instead of a nickel, or more junk, a rose-gold-tone ring appeared. A quick
inspection revealed no flaking, and the overall color was solid. A good sign!
Also, the design looked rather...hand made, so another good indication.
Took some pics at home and cleaned it up. For a stamp inside it's a W then XXX.
Still trying to research what it stands for, but probably 10k, or 12k. Looks late
1800s. Weight is 1.6 grams. HH all!

I just looked a little online and found one of those worthpoint listings from an old ebay auction. Looks like that ring had the same marks:

"The ring is solid 10-karat yellow gold (tested)... The inside of the band has a sideways "W," one of the trademarks employed by J.R. Wood & Sons, which opened for business around 1850 (without the "sons," who were added in the mid 1880's). The band is also marked "XXX," a mark about which we could find no information..."

So it looks like it may be 10k.

Sweet ring old gold got to like that.:laughing7:

Love the Old Gold !!
Best Wishes to You! herbie:hello:

Thanks Herbie! I actually had a dream with you in it (it was a manly dream, no worries, haha). We were at a spot but the tide was really low and the ground was dry due to lack of rain. I was excited because my boots wouldn't sink in the mud. You were in a boat and headed out to to a different location. Unfortunately, that's all of the dream...but I'm sure you pulled out a 1600s cob or something similar.

Sweet! Does it fit? Great find, I'm jealous.

The ring's actually a little smaller than the pics indicate. Definitely looks like a woman's band - and fits nicely on my pinky. But it would get me beat up if I wore it out of the house.
