BORDEN'S FARM PRODUCTS

...............Rain let up, and had to get out.

Many areas still under water or soggy. Decided
why not hit the woods.

Did some scouting. Wet, muddy, bugs bad in
some areas, still too much green to see good.

Looking for dumps, come across a few areas. Worked
them with the detector and pulled up a few clumps of
metal. Will be working this area in the fall.

Shards, and this Borden's bottle. Real nice,
heavy as all heck for a half pint.

Markings: Logo+"QUALITY SERVICE,TRADE, BORDEN'S, MARK"/
end logo/"BORDEN'S/FARM PRODUCT'S CO/ OF ILLINOIS/CHICAGO, ILL"

Other side: "THIS BOTTLE PROPERTY OF AND FILLED BY /SEALED/
BORDEN'S/1/2PINT"

Bottom had a "B" with what could be a 3. Also along bottom edge
"W"with a 3 on top plus a "4" across from the W on the edge.

Borden's is a big dairy product company and thought milk at first
but have to do some checking. Note that there is no MILK, or
DAIRY. Only "FARM PRODUCTS"

Had a good time, have not been out in the woods for a bit and
really enjoyed it. Also think the bottle is a nice size and design
with the flat ridges. No real idea yet, but would think the 50"s.

thanks a big bunch, looks like real close.

Seller did not mention a location on bottle, and
he had a "TMC11" that is not on mine. But
looks like the same family type

I'm thinking 50's and he says, "Real Old Borden's Farm
Products Milk or Cream Bottle." That makes me
"REAL OLD"

where is Elsie?

That is what I am thinking. Like I said in the
original post, no mention of milk or dairy on the bottle,
just, "FARM PRODUCTS."

Anyone remember if Bordens put out juice or something
like that? E-Bay seller may be wrong saying milk or cream.

I will have to spend some time searching the web tonight.

I'm doing a little myself...researching finds is just as fun as finding them! Here's some info about Borden's:

The Borden Co.

Gail Borden became involved in milk production in 1857 and was primarily involved in condensed milk. Fluid milk sales began in 1875 with bottling of the product following a decade later (1885). The oldest bottles are embossed with an eagle and PROPERTY OF N. Y. CONDENSED MILK CO. About 1900, bottles were still embossed with an eagle, but the embossing was changed to PROPERTY OF BORDEN'S CONDENSED MILK CO. The name was diminished to The Borden Co. in 1919, and bottles were embossed PROPERTY OF BORDEN'S FARM PRODUCTS DIVISION. At an undisclosed later date, bottles were marked PROPERTY OF BORDEN'S FARM PRODUCE CO., INC. A final notable dating device was the introduction of Elsie the cow at the 1939 World's Fair. Elsie became a national success and was used on subsequent advertising including pryroglazed bottles (Tutton 1992:49-50; 1994:159-160; cf. also Frantz 1951).

I think this means it was made somewhere between 1919 and 1939...

Borden's was basically a purveyor (and not necessarily a producer) and purchased raw milk directly from dairies or
co-ops, then refined (pasturized), bottled and marketed the product and by-products.

Sherm,sorry this ol' guy can't pull it out of my memory for sure,but it seems to me that Bordens bottled their Chocolate milk in a small individual bottle also.
