mxt volume problem

Have a whites mxt which is about 8 years old. With the ear phones on the sound will occassionally move from ear to ear. Also the unit has lost volume when not using the ear phones. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to correct it ?

Sounds like a problem with the female connector in the Whites box. These have a set of contacts that disable the speaker when you plug in the headphones.

Should not be hard to remove and replace. Whites sells them for ~$5 each or you should be able to get one at a radio Shack or electronic supply.
