I found this one hundreds of miles south of the closest deposit of this material.

I'm kind of addicted to celts.

Here is a California specimen with some pismo (natural asphalt/tar for hafting.)

Here are some broken personal finds, stored in a large copper bowl that was also a personal find. These are tropical items.

Since we are out on a limb, here is what I believe to be a authentic Celt. It has been ruined by some jackadzz carving a thunder bird in it. If it is by chance authentic, thunderbird and all, I take the jackadzz back. I traded a boat prop for it.

My friend.... Tisk Tisk.. why on earth would you have anything to do with something with a Thunderbird on it????

I dont have a Celt yet or I would join in, and I did say yet.

Here are some stone adze/celts from Guam.

Lol! My buddy needed a prop. It looks cool and seems to be a nice Celt. Well.... Subtract the bird. In all actuality, I'm not sure it is a thunder bird. He answers no questions. I wish he weren't there.

Is the carving fresh looking? There are a great many Native American petroglyphs of the thunderbird, most with the head in profile view, and one from Oregon with a big eye center of head. I mention this because, unless you know the carving is fresh, and I really can't be 100% certain from the photo, then perhaps it's original to the piece, which would make it one special celt, no? If the lines are really obviously fresh without patina, well, that's telling of course, but the bird is stylized and looks "right" in that respect, just a question of how fresh those lines are. I can see the lines look lighter then the surface of the celt, so maybe they are too fresh....

So what is the story on it NC? What does your friend say on it as to where he got it from?

Charl, to my knowledge the Celt hasn't been altered. I have just fallen into the thunderbird is not real click, because I thought that was the only click. My buddy said his grandpa found it years ago, just as it is. It was supposedly found near the VA. Line in NC. I know the bird has been on this piece for over twenty years. I'll get you better pics of the patina tomorrow. I'm not saying the bird isn't a fabrication, but I honestly do not think the patina is wrong.

Could of been found by a later period and then etched on at that time. I do think they found artifacts and reused them later. Just like us finding them today even though we dont reuse them.

The best chipped celt I have found. Lucky both parts were there.

Would it be reasonable to find some in florida made from chert? Or what would be the stone of choice of the typical Floridian Celt one might find?
