"WEPAWAUG" Indian Mortar?

This morning I was doing some research on early American settlers and Indian tribes in my area of Connecticut.
I found some interesting articles and one was saying how a "hunting tribe" moved up river from the Shelton/Stratford area and discussed some settled on one side of the river while others settled on the other side of the river at the "first falls" Which is the area I detected today.

The land has old stone walls and granite out croppings at the peak of the hill.

On my way back home I noticed thisrock and I think it might be a Indian/ early settler Mortar.

What do you think?

Re: American Indian Pestel?

Could be a mortar, pestle being the grinding tool. Did you lug that home? Looks heavy.
