OLD ENGLISH ARTIFACTS ?

Hello to all..I found these two objects last feb, about 2ft apart,8in under near a 1880s ranch in so calif. The first is a WARRANTED SUPERIOR Medallion found on old hand saws.It has the English coat of arms on it.The Internet has alot of info,but this medallion pre dates the american version which they started to copy. Does anyone have more info,and what year its from ? My second find is the top of a oil lantern,it has clear markings on the round thumb turn that says P & A MFG CO. PAT JAN 1683. Seen alot of info on Internet,but cannot find this one,Need Help,What Year is it? anyone ?

Your kerosine lamp definetly does not date to the 1600's,more realistically 1883.

I am in the meantime trying to find more on yours.I will say that your type is more common than the ones with the eagles(for me anyway)

very interesting.....as you said,there seems to be some mystery surrounding the exact data on this one?This says possibly 1850's which may explain why I have dug more of that style?

Welcome to TNet & thanks for showing us your finds. The patent date on your kerosene burner's thumb wheel is January 16, 1883 and was issued to Lewis Atwood: Patent US270722 - LEWIS J ATWOOD.

The firm was Plume & Atwood Manufacturing Co. of Waterbury, Conn.

Hello Mr. DIGIT,

It's a Kerosene lamp burner. The thumb wheel reflects the patent date of January 16, 1883 by abbreviating it as "Jan.16.83."

Here's an earlier one that I assure you does not mean "February 1173."
