Ten incredible Rock drummers ~ Check em out!

Re: Ten incredible Rock drummers ~ Check 'em out!

What's up with Travis Barker, playing upside down and round and around :dontknow: :laughing7:

There were some great drummers there, and many that didn't make that cut that should have. I know many not listed that are as good, if not way better..

You have to remember, it's not only about speed, but most importantly.... rhythm. I like drummers that have more complicated beats and are able to chance timing back and forth without losing a beat.. Now that is talent.

Most drummers are on the road to being great once they master triplets, and quadruplets

Re: Ten incredible Rock drummers ~ Check 'em out!

I would agree with Neil peart should be on the list.

But poor choice of Example.

Of course that may have been why the rest don't impress me.

Keith Moon ? are they Kidding ?

I hate the who.

Pinball wizard strengthend my Opinion of
Having No intrest in listening to the who

Where is Ron Bushy :dontknow:

Re: Ten incredible Rock drummers ~ Check 'em out!

This guy has to be in the top 10! What do you think?

Re: Ten incredible Rock drummers ~ Check 'em out!

FooserPaul, there is no doubt that Buddy Rich should also be listed.. Great jazz drummer.. You can see the control he had playing the cymbals so quickly, and lightly.

thrillathahunt, well you know I would be back to weigh in on this :laughing7: Funny, but some of his best work was not that solo in Toad. Baker should have been number #1 Baker, much like Buddy Rich is a jazz drummer, and also studied African rhythms for several years after Cream.. Ginger Bakers Air Force is an excellent example of fusing jazz and the African rhythms into his music.

There is a world of difference in drumming for rock, blues, and jazz. Having all the basic elements of each will bring you greatness.

I was also surprised not to see Mitch Mitchell listed.. I guess they have a thing against jazz influenced drummers :dontknow:

Jon Bonham is probably one of the best "rock" drummers there was. I also had a post that noted Carmine Appice's style was a big influence on Bonham .. Carmine was one of the first hard rhythm drummers. You can see from this video how close the hard driving styles of Bonham and Appice really are.

Re: Ten incredible Rock drummers ~ Check 'em out!

Really liked Carmine's methodical hard pounding style! His little brother Vinny was not bad either. He was the driving force of the band DIO.

Re: Ten incredible Rock drummers ~ Check 'em out!

I was supposed to go to one of Carmines drum clinics in the 70's but never went.. I do regret it now.. I did have something else in common with Carmine.. We both had Slingerland kits :tongue3: I also went with a Rodgers Jazz snare drum.. That bad boy had one crisp sound.. Nothing beats a good old maple kit

I wish I still had that set, it would be worth a fortune today.. 2x bass 2x toms, 2x floor toms and 6 Zildjian cymbals (including the high-hat) I also had 2 top line foot pedals, Ludwig Speed King and the Ghost :headbang:
Not only that, but 4 hammers for the pedals, 2 wood, and 2 standard.

One lucky 2nd cousin got my whole set for $200 when I had to move and had no place for them :crybaby2: My hardware alone was over $500 :laughing7: I think I'm going to cry myself to sleep now :tongue3:

Re: Ten incredible Rock drummers ~ Check 'em out!

I had to breath new life into this :tongue3: Take a good look at my man Baker, who is 65 when playing this concert. I'd like to see the young punks listed try this in just a few years, nah, they'll never make it

There is no showing off here, just pure rhythm and genius

Baker is #1 and always will be #1 :headbang:

P.S. A bonus video of him playing at his 70th birthday part with Stevie Windwood

Re: Ten incredible Rock drummers ~ Check 'em out!

WOW! Thanks for posting that Spart! Absolutely perfect! I can't believe he is 70! Where the heck has time gone?

Re: Ten incredible Rock drummers ~ Check 'em out!

Baker is #1 and always will be #1
===================================================================
:headbang: As I said in another post, Ginger Baker epitomizes exactly why the drummer's
seat is called a 'Throne'. Carmen & many others are great, but there is only 1 king on that
throne & he is known as Ginger !
