Would have made more sense to dig out and sift this stuff. After about 20 coins on the far side of these bars I told Mike to take over. He pulled out countless more before we ever hit the area directly under. We each got a JAD from the spot, and I plucked seemingly countless mems and dimes here. We worked this pit for an hour or so and yes, left coins behind. I had this spot completely cleared of coinage late last summer before the school year began.

Took in 56 dimes today, what looks like about 300 mems, 24 nickels but scant few quarters. I got 8 quarters on the day and the one JAD.

It was hot, muggy and the coin gods were cruel to us, mocking us with mem after mem. Yes, the dimes were plentiful but the mems, woe be to us the mems.....

and not a piece of bling between us.

Holy heck! Digging almost 400 coins would have fried my brain today. Congrats on the cladage!
My best find ever was from a tot lot...guess I should try 'em again from time to time.

QUITE AN EXCAVATION GOING ON THERE!

yep those are always gold mines, speakin of which - dig all of them low tones, you may be rewarded with a piece of gold!!! :icon_pirat:

I'd never dream of digging that many clad in dirt, that'd be a nightmare! But in the woodchips I was hitting three to four mems a minute in a few of those spots. My deepest respect for those cladventurers who actually dig 'em!

At one school in Elgin, where I'd had a good couple quarter days this spring, the brand new 10" deep woodchip bed was almost completely washed away by the rains the other day. This left exposed coinage on the hard pack under it. Not much there, I'd already cleaned that playground this spring, but there were a few and it was easy pickins'!

Trust me Kermit, I carried a good day's load of low-tone scrap out of there. Once again the Chin 1023 earned it's keep, hitting the coins to 6" readily.

Now if I can get these kids to carry more JAD's and Saca's....
