You're not thinking about all the forces. You do NOT want a high-pressure output like you get from in-series fire pumps. look at the jet log on your dredge; the pressure input is about 400% smaller than the total volume of the pipe diameter. This is to give you a balance of pressure and volume. Jack up the pressure and you will be blasting water down your sluice, just like when you first prime the pump but the dredge hose isn't filled yet.
One last thing, pumping from one discharge into the intake of another is called "in series". Pumping both discharges into an appliance is called " in parallel "
