Parallel pumps to boost pressure

Parallel pumps. So one pump on top of another. One pump discharges into the intake is the 2nd pump to boost the pressure. Why don't they do this with dredging? Why use 2 motors and 2 pumps?

Waste of time as all you do is create cavitation-you can only cram so much through a small vein in a pump. To pump up way high onto a hillside to highbank that helps greatly due to extreme weight and gravity on inclines. MUCH better off with dual orafice jet as THEN you truly do increase suction expotentionally-John

You're not thinking about all the forces. You do NOT want a high-pressure output like you get from in-series fire pumps. look at the jet log on your dredge; the pressure input is about 400% smaller than the total volume of the pipe diameter. This is to give you a balance of pressure and volume. Jack up the pressure and you will be blasting water down your sluice, just like when you first prime the pump but the dredge hose isn't filled yet.

One last thing, pumping from one discharge into the intake of another is called "in series". Pumping both discharges into an appliance is called " in parallel "
