What geology is associated with gold deposits?

Gold originates in ignous rock formation, which requires heat. Gold does not originate in sedimentary rock, which is not formed by heat. Keep in mind, that does not mean that gold cannot be found in these formations, it simply was not formed there.
 

So looking for evidence in mineral geology maps for volcanic origin minerals is the best scientific method to find likely places for gold then?
 

Whatever state and county your planning on searching has mining reports and bulletins,which are available in public libraries and university libraries.....http://www.nuggetshooter.com/articles/CRGeologyofcoarsegoldformation.html .....also find a copy of Handbook for Prospectors by Richard Pearl or older editions by Vonbernewitz...sold online at various prices,depending on condition and edition...from $10-$40.
