I have been thinking of getting into dectecting. What metal detector should I start with? I see alot of you recommend the ace 250. I am retired and will be doing it here in Ct.

There are many good what people call lower end detectors out there. I say lower end only because of their cost, after all they do find metal and that's what you're looking for

Read up on several and if you're still not sure, just flip a coin and learn the machine you commit to.

Spart makes a good point. If you ask 10 detectorists what is a good entry level detector you will probably get many different answers.... Ace 250, Fisher F2, Tesoro Compadre/Silver umax, Teknetics Delta 4000, etc. The trick is, whatever you decide to go with, know it like the back of your hand. Of course this only comes with many hours of usage. Welcome to the wonderful world of metal detecting.
