National Forest MD

Does anyone know the laws about MD in Virginia National Forests? I've tyred to contact the offices here and surrounding counties,no body home,at any time of day.I've left several messages,but no call backs.I guess they are out on "Possum Patrol" ?

I do, don't. All national parks and areas are off limits to detectors. I know this for a fact. Under section 9 of the US park regs, you are not allowed. You could get your detector taken away.

Sure you can in the Washington and Jefferson National Forest. Metal Detecting is legal, you just can't collect anything. About halfway down this page:

Thanks Guys,I just found out where I want to go is "State Owned" not a national forest,does that make a difference?
Digginman,does that mean you can't keep what you find ? When you say collect anything ? From what I've told,the ranger in this area is a "real dozy"

Reading it, it says that MD is legal, but digging isn't. You can't remove plants rocks or dig. That's what I meant about collecting anything. Don't do it.
