Could be slag from furnace? Or a piece of limestone that has been in a fire?

Excellent suggestions!! Thanks a lot. Meteorite would be awesome. At first I thought it was a fossil but I've been searching on the rocks and gems forum and found the agate to be similar. I may post it in that forum and see what I get. Thanks for the replies guys. This site is awesome!

Did it signal on your metal detector? If it's a meteorit you will get a strong signal. But..I think you said there wasn't.
 

I'll have to double check but I don't think it has any metal in it. It was a visible find only half buried.

looks like a klinker from some type of furnace or blacksmith's forge. A dremel tool with a diamond blade might show up something!
 

Have seen some coral like that also lava rock?
 

This post is a couple years old, hope Kriopelle is still interested. I zoomed in and I see crystal quartz bits . . . I think it is weathered, fossilized coral.
