Ran across this while MDing. It was half buried in the dirt. I dont think it has any metal in it although in one of the pics there looks like rust on it. It looks like a fossil to me but im not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Could be slag from furnace? Or a piece of limestone that has been in a fire?

That, I would wager, is a meteorite.:exclamation:

Excellent suggestions!! Thanks a lot. Meteorite would be awesome. At first I thought it was a fossil but I've been searching on the rocks and gems forum and found the agate to be similar. I may post it in that forum and see what I get. Thanks for the replies guys. This site is awesome!

Did it signal on your metal detector? If it's a meteorit you will get a strong signal. But..I think you said there wasn't.

I'll have to double check but I don't think it has any metal in it. It was a visible find only half buried.

looks like a klinker from some type of furnace or blacksmith's forge. A dremel tool with a diamond blade might show up something!

That it does.

Have seen some coral like that also lava rock?

This post is a couple years old, hope Kriopelle is still interested. I zoomed in and I see crystal quartz bits . . . I think it is weathered, fossilized coral.
