I just got back from putting my dog down. He was a stray that adopted me almost 3 yrs ago. I knew he was old then, & figured he wouldn't last long, but I knew we could give him a safe loving home for as long as he wanted. He was a Pom, & a one person dog, my shadow. though he grew to love the rest of my family as did they to love him. He was a pain in the ass that will be sorely missed. He had been abused, but after months of working with him grew to trust us. I feel so thankful he chose me to live with. His name was Monster cuz he could be a little monster at times. but a fiercely loyal monster he was. goodbye buddie, I love you.

soo sorry mama, know just where your at and its not a pretty place to be (i put my lil cleo down last year and miss her every day)time heals just not fast enough .........take care and be strong

thanx Bomber. It is hard to lose a friend. we have so many dogs that get dropped off at our place (way out in the country) we try to give them a home or find them homes elsewhere, but there are some that are just special & he was one. I am sorry for your loss. It does take time. I had to put our 15 yr old heinz 57 down 5 yrs ago, & I still think of her often, but now they are all happy memories & we can think of her & laugh at what a great goof ball she was. time does heal.

HI LUV: I have gone that route and swear to never do it again. It hurts too much. However, the relationship is so precious, that I always look for another companion who will share their life with me.

I have found that they stay around for a period just to see that you are ok, They evidence this by moving their food, water dish, or even your blankets every so often. Even after months, my "POOP" did this.

Others have heard her moving her dish, so unless I have extremely powerful and unsuspected psychic powers, one is left to only one conclusion.

I have personally experienced this so called 'death' syndrome, and returned voluntarily. I no longer fear it , only in the manner that it may come. A simple injection is often the greatest gift that you may give to one that is suffering, and they will be eternally grateful to you..

Always remember they choose to live with you, they can leave anytime that they wish.

Cherish your memories, not your loss.

We have always had our dogs from a shelter, they seem so grateful that you chose "them". Our last dog we had for 15 yrs, and were heartbroken when she became so ill we had to have her put "down". Over the years we have kept the collars of the dogs we have loved, and shared our lives with, and yes they do stay with you, in your heart and mind. Just before last Christmas, a stray black cat walked into our home, and yes, what did I do, I had to feed it of course. He came back daily until he thought we were "good" enough to be his family. Naturally we had him checked over by the vet, who told us that this cat was at least 8-9 yrs old. He had teeth that needed extracting, he had to have all his injections etc etc, in fact this stray cat has cost us quite abit of money all in all. But I must say we have been rewarded by his loving nature. He purrs his hello's each morning, loves sitting on my lap to be stroked, and yes he looks at me as if to say thank you for letting me stay. I have never owned cats, always dogs, but I do love him now.
I am sorry that you have lost your dog, but you will never forget him, and he died knowing that he was loved after all.

Unicorn, we have 3 cats that adopted us. we love them all. they each have very different personalities. all crazy, so they fit right in with the rest of the family.

Thanx everyone for sharing your stories you all are vvery comforting.

I'm really sad to hear that, it's gonna break my heart the day my furry kid's go. You've got a really big heart
taking in a stray. The love you get from them is more reward than you could ever ask. My wife and I have
two Poms, Bit Bit (white) and Billy Bumpkin (tan). Bit Bit is like my little shadow always wanting to come on
whatever adventure I'm on. I'll just have to enjoy every moment while they're around.
Chin up, my thoughts are with you.

Yarrum, I never thought I would have much less love a little dog. but they are just about the most lovable things in the world. Yours are so cute! Monster would be my shadow always even going so far as to crawl under my bed & sleep right underneath my side. thanx for your thoughts.
