some "oldies" from an "oldy" beach...silver coins, a "V" nickel, & Canada Dry GA

Hi :hello:

Got out for a nice low tide this afternoon.

Hunted one of many old beaches here on the CT shoreline.

Tide was very low , so I was able to go further out on the muddy flats than in previous days.

Sorry that I forgot my camera; would have liked to post pics of this interesting beach....next time.

Found the two "Mercs" within a few minutes of each other.

The "V" nickel is a favorite coin of mine , so I was pleased ( and surprised) to find it . Only able to see a "1", an "8" , and "9" for the date. :(

The crown top Canada Dry Applied Color Label bottle was made in 1963 according to the bottom embossing information.

It was full of barnacles when I retrieved it....difficult to clean.

A bit of trivia: The first Canada Dry bottling plant was opened in the USA in 1921 on 38th street in Manhattan, NYC.

Here's some pics of today's finds

Thanks for looking

Lorraine

Thanks, Coastie; I sure wish it was a large cent, but no...it is just a brass disk , very smooth with no detail .

Thank you, Kleinerschmitter, how were you able to see that date? I couldn't see the 4th number.

Did you focus the photo in a special to see the date?

Wow L,
Great stuff! I can't believe no gold! When the lead starts to show up I seem to find some gold with it! Keep at it!!

To clean the barnacles off glass, you could use muratic acid that is cut about 50% with water. Glass is not affected by muratic acid, same with silver. But with your colored label, I would test that first. Nice old stuff!

Thank you, SnF

Yes, I 'm very sure that the gold was within this particular area, but probably a bit further out...and I had only low boots on ..couldn't get out there. Got to get out those higher boots...time to say "goodbye" to those good old summer days.

Love to see old coins pulled from the beach! Just hard for me to imagine when I am so use to getting old coins from an old yard. Excellant Lorraine! I agree that a v nickle is a beautiful coin. I have just a few in my collection from my area. Hopefully the next mid-tone want be a v nickle but a big gold ring for ya!
