🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Columnar Tufa or Similar?

I was gifted this rock specimen from the estate of a professional geologist. I do not know where he got it but it's pretty cool. Does anyone know what this might be?

I think it might be some kind of tufa and originally thought it was a stromatolite or other microbialite. Thoughts welcome. Bill J.
